Summer in Honolulu

These are my three gouache studies from my summer vacation in Honolulu with my family. I wanted to do more paintings while on O'ahu, but my two boys a 4.5 year old and 15 months had different ideas like going to the beach and me being the lifeguard.

The first two are painted from the Moana Surfrider Hotel in Waikiki a little before sunset and a nocturne around midnight. The second painting is at the tide pools just north of Sandy's beach.

I really like the night scene. I don't know if I've ever seen a painting of Hawaii in the dark like that!

These paintings were definitely worth the wait. The night scene with the hotel is just awesome. :) Thanks for sharing, Cameron.

Thx Sergio & Jon. The nocturne was fun to paint. I should try & paint more nocturnes next time in Hawai'i cause of the warm temps. I was painting in shorts & t-shirt, gotta love that.

These are great! My view from my balcony was a the other side of my hotel, LOL! I like the day/night scene. Brilliant. I should have stayed in Kauai longer.... no time for painting on this trip >:(

Hi cko, It did not bring back marathon memories. Since I grew up in Honolulu I have other memories of Waikiki, good and bad : )
