Kat Love

A few drawings from Monday night. Our model was the beautiful Kat Love and getting her proportion correct can be a challenge as she does not conform to the standard 7.5 heads scale.

Sunset @ China Camp

I went painting with two friends on Monday. We decided to paint at China Camp in San Rafael because of it's diverse landscape. I did two paintings, this is the one that I like best from the afternoon session. It is a quick 20 minute color sketch in oils as the sun was setting.

Elk Glen Lake

I meet up with two friends yesterday to Paint at Elk Glen lake in Golden Gate Park. I can't believe the beautiful weather we are having here over the last week. The only thing that spoiled my painting session was hearing the constant chatter of people behind me. I should have looked behind me before setting up to paint so that I could have notice the park bench. It was equivalent to being at the movies with people behind you munching on popcorn and slurping their sodas. I really need to bring some ear plugs next time.

Crazy Branches

Today's outing in Golden Gate Park. These branches drove me crazy, well actually the mosquitoes did.

Sutro Baths Ruins

Yesterdays plein air painting. What beautiful warm weather we are having here in the bay area. If I didn't know any better I would say it was summer. I actually broke a sweat standing in the sun while painting this, climate change I guess.

Gouache Studies of David

Tonight's figure drawing session at the Riley Street Art store. I decided to do a little of bit of both drawing and gouache painting. Here are the gouache studies. Today I also was able to get in some landscape painting but I will have to post it tomorrow when I can take a decent photo of it.

The Shire

No, this isn't the Shire from Middle-Earth. This is a trail somewhere in the SF Zoo. It was Family Appreciation in the city today, which means free admission for SF residents. After the animals, petting zoo and carousel, my son napped in his stroller and I did this gouache study.

Shrunken Head Man Demo

I want to thank the good students of the Shrunken Head Man Club for inviting me to do a figure painting demo yesterday at San Jose State University. Here is the result of approximately 3 hours of painting in the ala prima style. I was hoping to get a more completed look or feeling to this painting (like getting to the hands), however about half of my painting time was consumed by working on the face of our model Crow.

Mondays Figure Drawing

Mondays figure drawing and it sure has been awhile. I know I'm rusty when I can't even get to the legs for a 20 minute pose. On the bright side, it's the beginning of the new year so there is a lot of time to get back into good drawing form.

On Top of Stowe Lake

First landscape painting of 2009 was painted yesterday at the very top of Stowe Lake looking northeast. Yes, that is some kind of Plank near the bottom of the painting surrounded by a chain link fence.
