Sundays Portrait Painting

Sundays painting from Pam Powell's portrait painting group and California Art Club. It was a five hour pose, the model's name escapes me, sorry. I added a imaginary environment for the model to sit in, which kept me busy during the model breaks.

CAC Portrait Paint-in

Last Sunday I attended the California Art Club SF chapter portrait paint-in hosted by Pam Powell. Here's my painting of the model with perhaps the most difficult eyes I have tried to paint. They were challenging to paint because her eyes were either looking around the room constantly or heavy eye lids ready to fall asleep.

Sweat Box

Two paintings from Sunday's drawing marathon hosted by the Bay Area Model Guild at Merritt College in Oakland. It was a hot day all around the Bay Area outside and inside the art building which was a sweat box for me. Both paintings are about a three hours pose. The first model is Otenio, the second model is Sydney.

Painting @ SJSU

Figure painting at San Jose State University with the Shrunken Head Man club. A three hour pose in oils.

After the figure painting session I didn't want to wait in traffic, so I decided to kill some time. I drove up to the top of the 7th street garage and paint a quick gouache study of clouds as the sun was setting.

Fun with Gouache

Fun times with gouache considering I just started using this medium over mid summer. I feel that I have past that point of being seriously frustrated with how gouache behaves. By no means do I feel that I have mastered this medium, but it has become enjoyable to use.

The first one is painted from the car studio in Golden Gate Park. Second Painting is of my son when he was 10 months old. Experimenting with painting on tan Reeves BFK paper.

Baby Boy

Had some left over paint on my palette and wanted to get a little more mileage with my new friend gouache. So...I painted my baby boy at nine months. Well he is 20.5 months old now and yes this is painted from a photo. I wish he could sit still for a portrait, but the reality is he is more on the bouncing baby boy type.
